UC Berkeley SafeTREC’s Street Story Data Tool

Launched in 2019 by UC Berkeley’s Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC), Street Story is an interactive platform designed to help communities report and track transportation crashes, near misses, general hazards, and safe locations to travel. The tool is free to use, anonymous, and publicly accessible to communities throughout California

Explore Your Community

To view safety reports in your area:

  1. Select your city, county, or area from the menu on Street Story and click “Next”, then click, “See Statewide Data”
  2. Use the slider to explore reported incidents and insights from your community.

To submit a report:

Navigate to Street Story and first select the city, county, tribe, or unincorporated area in which you would like to submit a report. Select whether you would like to submit a report for a specific location (point) or for a street (line). Using the statewide map and its navigation tools, select the exact location for which you would like to submit a report. Then, select whether you would like to submit a report for a crash, near-miss, hazard, or a safe place. Complete the subsequent questions to share more information about the incident or location. However, do not identify any individuals by name or include license plate numbers. Lastly, click the “Submit” button to submit your report and optionally answer the set of demographic questions.

Note: Reports of traffic incidents or near misses (as opposed to general concerns not tied to a specific event) will be added to this map. If you would like to submit a concern, submit here.
